It appears you need a kernel >= 3.10 for that chip to work: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1096989 ** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 1096989 10ec:8179 No wireless support for Lenovo IdeaCentre Q190 (RTL8188E) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1216753 Title: No WiFi - Lenova IdealCentre Q190 Model 57312246 Status in Broadcom Feature Request and Bug Reporting: Invalid Status in Broadcom 802.11 Linux STA driver: Invalid Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I just purchased a Lenova IdealCentre Q190 Model 57312246, which comes with Windows 8 installed. Using Windows 8, the computer's built-in Wi-Fi card works fine, but after installing Ubuntu 13.04 (and fully updating), I'm unable to detect this wifi card in any manner I've tried. The Lenova website simply says that this PC came with at "Broadcom 11b/g/n Wi-Fi wireless": http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/desktops/ideacentre/q-series/q190/index.html So far, I haven't been able to detect the exact model of the wi-fi card; I've tried a few hardware detection commands after installing Ubuntu, but none of them seem to be able to detect that the wi-fi adapter is even there: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ lspci ------ 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family DRAM Controller (rev 09) 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09) 00:14.0 USB controller: Intel Corporation 7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family USB xHCI Host Controller (rev 04) 00:16.0 Communication controller: Intel Corporation 7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family MEI Controller #1 (rev 04) 00:1a.0 USB controller: Intel Corporation 7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller #2 (rev 04) 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 04) 00:1c.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port 1 (rev c4) 00:1c.1 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port 2 (rev c4) 00:1c.2 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port 3 (rev c4) 00:1c.3 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port 4 (rev c4) 00:1d.0 USB controller: Intel Corporation 7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller #1 (rev 04) 00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation 7 Series Chipset Family LPC Controller (rev 04) 00:1f.2 SATA controller: Intel Corporation 7 Series Chipset Family 6-port SATA Controller [AHCI mode] (rev 04) 00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corporation 7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family SMBus Controller (rev 04) 02:00.0 Unassigned class [ff00]: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. By the way, in order to submit this bug report, I had to use a external USB wi-fi adapter. I hope this doesn't cause any confusion in any of the attached logs; I did try to generate the attachments with this adapter unplugged, and then I plugged it in so I could post to launchpad.
