Chris Morgan, as per http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=3356622&prodTypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=3356620&swLang=13&taskId=135&swEnvOID=1093#120 an update is available for your BIOS (F.20). If you update to this, does it change anything?
If not, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date Thank you for your understanding. ** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 1094722 Raring: regression: fan keeps spinning at full speed after suspend ** Tags added: bios-outdated-f.20 ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete ** Summary changed: - After first wake up from standby, fan stays at full speed + [HP Compaq 6710b] After first wake up from standby, fan stays at full speed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1163038 Title: [HP Compaq 6710b] After first wake up from standby, fan stays at full speed Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I have had this problem since upgrading from 12.10 to 13.04 development branch a couple of days ago. When I boot my laptop up, the fan behaves as I would expect it to: very quiet most of the time, occasionally speeding up a bit. (I haven't tried subjecting it to a load which I would expect to kick it up to the top speed.) However, now when I put it into standby mode, when I wake it up again the fan immediately goes to top speed, and remains there until I turn the machine off (log off makes no change). Subsequent restorations from standby mode also have the fan going at top speed.
