Fahad Azmi, as per http://www.dell.com/support/troubleshooting/us/en/19/Product/inspiron-1545 an update is available for your BIOS (A14). If you update to this, does it change anything?
If not, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date Thank you for your understanding. ** Tags added: bios-outdated-a14 needs-upstream-testing regression- potential ** Tags removed: regression-potential ** Tags added: regression-release ** Tags added: kernel-bug-exists-upstream-v3.8-rc4 ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete ** Summary changed: - 12.10 gets stuck at the 5dots screen, but not 12.04 + [Dell Inspiron 1545] 12.10 gets stuck at the 5dots screen, but not 12.04 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1102795 Title: [Dell Inspiron 1545] 12.10 gets stuck at the 5dots screen, but not 12.04 Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I was running Ubuntu 12.04 and decided to upgrade to 12.10, I let the system download and install the upgrades. When I logged on Ubuntu came to a halt on the 5 dots screen (with the Ubuntu logo). I tried restarting the system several time to no avail. Since I needed to get some work done urgently I installed another copy of Ubuntu 12.04 on the same system, the setup let me create another partition. Now I am running two systems on the same machine. All my software is installed in 12.10, and I would greatly like to gain access to it again please. Upon the behest of internet forums I have tried running fsck, tried the boot-repair, tried boot-repair with uncommenting GFX mode all to no avail. I am currently logged into the same machine but on Ubuntu 12.04. Is there any way I can gain access to 12.10 again? Any help will be greatly appreciated, thank you.
