I thought the limit was 2 gigs {2.1 gigs?}, not 4...
I also thought the limit was in the ext2 type of filesystem normally found on linux.
Also in ext3 filesystems, though they have a nice journalling feature.
If you've gone to some other type of filesystem {like reiser} in creating your /u
filesystem,
you may still be using ext2 in whatever filesystem /tmp lives on, hence your
difficulties.
