Regardless of how I read, mark, update, move, or modify the message, it always appears as unread as soon as the imap folder is rescanned. If I log into my imap account with a different mail client, and mark the message there, the next time the message is scanned by kmail it retains the correct read status. I have debugging symbols installed here, and I have some programming experience but am new to kde debugging.
