Just came across this. The 501 error here is emitted by lighttpd, not sabredav. The request actually never reaches sabredav in this case. Lighttpd is a notoriously bad webserver. Which is too bad, as it had great promise. At one point development pretty much stopped. I'd highly recommend switching to something like nginx for anything beyond simple websites.
