I installed Mint with KDE only a few days ago. Ever since the install, it's been crashing right and left with the above bug as the primary cause. Restarting did nothing. Then just now I installed a Nvidia driver for my graphics card, and restarted one more time for "Why not" sake. And now it seems to be fixed. The dolphin file manager icon or "add widget" doesn't crash the computer, and the early start up screen, which had been an ugly mess of noisy pixels is now clear.
