The computer gets unuseable until it OOMs. Since a lot of similar bug reports were closed with "FIXED" telling the people to use KDE 4.8 I took the risk and updated my openSUSE 12.1 with the KDE 4.8 repository to KDE 4.8.1 and akonadi 1.7.1. No luck, still eating 10GB of RAM (and who knows what it would fo if I would add more RAM to the game ;-) )...
