But KMail is still not usable. Selected mails do not show content but "please wait" forever. Also replying to a mail results in endless wait messages. Sorry, but I can't wait that long for some reaction. I fixed the problem by upgrading to Thunderbird 9.0 after over a decade of using KMail. Access to thousands of mails in multiple accounts is instant again, even during retrieval of new mails.
