So shutdown Akonadi, kill all running mysqld processes (killall -9 mysqld), wait until all mysqld processes have really quit (ps ux | grep mysqld) and then start Akonadi again. It might also be helpful to update to KDE 4.4.5, we fixed several startup related bugs in that version. I'll close the bug for now, feel free to reopen it if you can still reproduce the bug with KDE 4.4.5.
