For the moment, having suffered this problem myself, there is a quick solution implemented in the command line Akonadi client (https://invent.kde.org/pim/akonadiclient). It allows folder assignments, attributes and tags to be backed up when the configuration is known to be good, and restored later if the database has to be regenerated.
