The notepad isn't really meant to be used as text editor. As text editor it lacks all the features people expect from a text editor, e.g. search & replace to name just one feature I'd expect in any text editor. When having a quick look I also noticed that it doesn't honor the system monospace font setting as set in System Settings > Fonts. At least, this should be fixed.
