It doesn't being replaced. I found a way to solve this: Settings -> Configure KMail -> Apparence -> Layout, Mail previewing panel, selecting 'Display beside mail list'. BTW, I am using a Chinese translation, So things above may be different with English, and I cannot change to English because there is no language override option in Help menu.
