I don't know if this is the same bug, but here goes an IRC log for a similar
problem:
[19:53] <winterz> tmcguire: how to reproduce
[19:53] <winterz> tmcguire: step 1: close kontact/kmail
[19:53] <winterz> tmcguire: step 2: close all wallets (RMB on kwallet in
systray)
[19:53] <winterz> tmcguire: step 3: start kontact/kmail
[19:54] <winterz> tmcguire: step 4: compose and send new message
[19:54] <winterz> tmcguire: you will be prompted for wallet password. at this
point the message should send; but instead you are prmopted for smtp password
[19:56] <winterz> then, if you type the password incorrectly the message will
stay in the outbox. so you need to go back into your config settings and enter
the correct password
