This is a misunderstanding, ctrl+left/right are not meant to select a folder,
they are meant to change the current folder, but you can't see that because of
a bug in the oxygen style (see bug 165216).
To select the folder after you used ctrl+left/right, use ctrl+space. This
behaviour is useful if you have IMAP folders, and you do not want to update
them when walking over the folder list with the shortcuts.
