It crashes because it's trying to print a qFatal -- a fatal error, in other
words. It would be useful to actually have that error message (e.g. by running
the application from an xterm).
From the backtrace, it looks like your OpenGL / XCB has a problem.
Thanks, Adriaan, this reply would've been helpful a month ago, when I
asked the question. Since then I replaced the video card (from NVidia to
Radeon), got the KDE5 to come up, realized, I don't like it and switched
to Xfce...
