First, please try an Appimage (see https://kmymoney.org/appimage.html.) You
can try the stable version first, as there have been some bug fixes to that
version since 5.1.3 was released. If that also doesn't work, try the
development version. Although backups are always a good idea, that version is
not as dangerous as the warnings imply, as the team is working towards a 5.2
release, which will be based on that version. Unfortunately, there is no
formal schedule yet.
One other thing you can do is to run KMyMoney from the command line, and see if
there is any useful message output to the console.
