I investigated that approach, but unfortunately it's not feasible, since only
some of the items in the sidebar get their icons from the standard menu
categories' desktop files. In addition, various apps create their own new menu
categories (e.g. Chrome and WINE) and there is no way to make those icons
symbolic without overriding the icon name in Kickoff's code. So I'm afraid it
has to stay this way sorry.
