            Bug ID: 496494
Summary: Wipe / Luma / Dissolve transition settings are not
                    documented
    Classification: Applications
           Product: kdenlive
           Version: git-master
          Platform: Other
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: Video Effects & Transitions
          Assignee: j...@kdenlive.org
          Reporter: contact+bugs+...@yannsalmon.fr
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

Kdenlive has a Wipe transition as well as Luma and Dissolve, which appear to be
so closely related that the docs have the latter point to the former
<https://docs.kdenlive.org/fr/compositing/transitions/wipe.html>, with a note
mentioning additional parameters Use transparency and Make padding transparent.

However, there is no explanation as to what these parameters do.

I have not the faintest idea what these mean, but in my projects, having these
settings checked (which is the default) causes a flash during the transition,
as if the transitioning track were briefly transparent and showing the track
below (or plain black).

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Put two clips next to each other on a track.
2. Select the left clip.
3. Press U on the keyboard.

OBSERVED RESULT

A transition is added between the two clips, of king Luma, with None (Dissolve)
mode and both Use transparency and Make padding transparent. Rendering shows a
brief black flash during the transition.

EXPECTED RESULT

Default transition settings should not add rendering artifacts (or at least it
should be clearly explained in the doc and the tooltips in the transition GUI).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

It is also not clear why there are Wipe and Luma and Dissolve if, says the doc
in
<https://docs.kdenlive.org/fr/compositing/transitions/transitions_list.html>,
"Dissolve works exactly like Wipe but has additional parameters." and "Luma
works exactly like Wipe but has additional parameters."
