This appears to be a misconfiguration of the Samba server; see
https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=347070 and
https://discourse.osmc.tv/t/error-8216-when-trying-to-use-smb/90969. The error
message sucks, but unfortunately it comes from a software library below us in
the stack. At least the error message is easily web-searchable!
