You could assign a different modifer key to each and pick one according to your needs in the moment. In other words: an option to restore the previous behavior, even if it's not the ideal one-setting-works-for-everyone approach; it seems like a "don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good" solution. I don't use any snapping or automatic maximization -- can't stand it -- and the advantage of the old behavior was that you could move windows between screens with lightning speed: hold down Meta and make a quick left-drag darting movement and the window snaps to the other screen; takes like 50ms to execute, no time spent finding snap-to target areas or window edges, etc. You could quickly reshuffle your entire arrangement of windows over three monitors in about 1 second.
