All digiKam KIO slaves have been replaced by a multi-threaded/core interface. KIO is bably portable and make digiKam very difficult to stabilize. There is no plan to restore KIO. Another approach can be to export database content with a standardized protocol as Upnp. An old KIPI tool exist by the core library which implement Upnp was never port to Qt5. My tip : delay all searches about this topic for the moment, until we found a portable, stable, standardized solution.
