            Bug ID: 493337
Summary: Typing indicator animation forces full-screen
repainting at refresh rate and consumes 35% CPU for me
    Classification: Applications
           Product: NeoChat
           Version: git master
          Platform: Other
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: General
          Assignee: fe...@posteo.de
          Reporter: n...@kde.org
                CC: c...@carlschwan.eu
  Target Milestone: ---

When someone is typing a message and the animated typing indicator appears,
KWin's "Show Paint" effect reveals that the entire screen is forced to repaint
at full refresh rate (60Hz for me). This spikes NeoChat's CPU usage to
typically about 35%. When the typing indicator is not present, it normally
idles at 0-1%.

This still happens when NeoChat's window is completely occluded by other
windows! The full-screen repainting pointlessly happens anyway.

Graphics hardware: Intel HD 630 iGPU, 10th gen
(https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/196449/intel-core-i7-10510u-processor-8m-cache-up-to-4-90-ghz.html)

This is not new; it's been happening for ages and aged. I just finally got off
my butt to report it.
