I can confirm this happening for the existing user in Wayland.
When I tried it with a new user account in X11, it's not there (but tried it
for just a couple of minutes, wildly copying text+images around), but not weird
offsets or overlays.
So it seems that the best way to address this is to recreate the user - but
then all the customizations would be forgotten.
