SUMMARY
For the last ~month, I have encountered the following issue, which is a
regression of some kind (I never observed it before). Eventually, after some
days of use on a laptop, whenever I activate the search widget I get a very
tiny little box just below the widget. Approximately 2x2 pixels.
It was only in documenting the issue for this report just now that I noticed
that this box is actually resizable - it's the search widget! Somehow the
widget has lost its natural size, and this condition continues until Plasma is
restarted or the search widget is replaced on the panel. (Or, as I have just
discovered, you resize the tiny widget back to something close to its original
size.)
My best guess is that this is somehow related to switching from the external
monitor to the internal screen, which is something I do a couple times per day.
Despite my efforts I haven't been able to directly show this yet.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Put a search widget on your panel. I have it set to activate whenever I
press CapsLock (Chromebook style).
2. Use your computer a bunch for a few days? Try using some external screens
via USB-C?
OBSERVED RESULT
Eventually the search widget permanently resizes itself. The button for the
widget is unaffected, and the widget continues to activate as before.
EXPECTED RESULT
No issue.
