I noticed the remote having a US keyboard layout (in this case a Windows
workstation accessed via xfreerdp3). After switching to DE on the remote end
the "Alt Gr" modifier started working. Same thing was true for the X2Go remote
end (confirmed by running "localectl"). Switching the X2Go session to DE
(running "setxkbmap de" inside) fixed the issue. Didn't test VNC yet.
Strangely the DE keyboard layout works with Xorg locally and remote even if
remote side is set to US.
Considering all this I guess it's not a bug but a configuration issue.
