Just a short take on the points:
1. is a bug in unmaintained phonon-gstreamer, related report here:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=350735 - wontfix, unfortunately
2. No opinion here (yet?)
3. Had a quick look through image search results. Seems like there is more
variation within equalizers in computer software, but actual physical hardware
devices indeed very often seem to have a range of +-12.0 dB.
Smaller range would probably make handling slider positions nicer, too; I think
I'll try something before 3.0.2.
