I think the painting assistants view options should be working now. I fixed
this in 3.0.1 I believe. I didn't realize there was a bug reported about this
until looking through them just now. Just tested it in the latest 3.0.1.1 and
it appears to work.
There was also another not related bug about color selectors that was thrown
into this ticket. If there is an issue with that, open a separate issue so this
ticket doesn't get confusing.
