Bug ID: 483701 Summary: unable to launch Software Sources - root password never accepted Classification: Applications Product: Discover Version: 6.0.2 Platform: Neon OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: discover Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org Reporter: s_chriscoll...@hotmail.com CC: aleix...@kde.org Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY Clicking the "Software Sources" button in Discover's "Settings" page prompts for the root password, but the root password (sudo) is never accepted. STEPS TO REPRODUCE These steps are for KDE neon and might vary for other distributions. 1. Make sure "software-properties-qt" is installed. 2. Start Discover. 3. Wait for update check to finish. 4. Navigate to the "Settings" page. 5. Click the "Software Sources" button on the right side of the page. OBSERVED RESULT A window pops up prompting for the root password. It has the window title "Run as root — KDE su" and says "The action you requested needs root privileges. Please enter root's password below or click Ignore to continue with your current privileges. Command: /usr/bin/software-properties-qt". After entering the user's password (since Ubuntu uses sudo), another box pops up with: "Permission denied. Possibly incorrect password, please try again. On some systems, you need to be in a special group (often: wheel) to use this program." The password continues to be prompted, but is never accepted. EXPECTED RESULT Sudo password should be accepted and software properties launched.
