--- Comment #3 from nealheine...@gmail.com --- (In reply to fanzhuyifan from comment #2) > This would lead to many privacy concerns. For bug reporting, you can copy > that information by going to system settings->about this system I'm not understanding the pushback of privacy concerns. Here is why I say that: - The code would only be requesting system information which is required to submit a bug report anyway. - KDE is a trusted organization and the collected information is solely for bug reporting purposes. Debian auto collects the same info when submitting a bug report, its likely other distros do the same. - The extension already has access to the users browser history, which most people would consider more private than software versions - If necessary, it could be an optional action, activated in a similar way to the double diamond icon in the browsers address bar used to integrate gmail or the icon to install youtube when viewing a youtube video and/or could be opted out through a checkbox in the extensions option page I think that there are a couple benefits to this enhancement in addition to ease of use for the reporter/user: - Eliminating user input error ensures bug reports are precise, helping developers address issues efficiently. You could even have it alert the user when they are trying to file a bug report for software version that is no longer maintained, leading to even more efficiency. - Streamlining the reporting process encourages more users to submit reports promptly, contributing to a better Plasma experience.
