I found the problem, and it was my local configuration. I've marked this
tickets as NOT A BUG, though that may or may not be correct, depending on what
one may expect.
The problem was that I had a configuration file setting an environment variable
on session start:
QT_WAYLAND_FORCE_DPI=120
With that, everything was bonkers. I don't remember why I have set it up, but
after removing it - Plasma 6 now behaves as expected.
