Heh, what you're seeing in Plasma 5 is a bug or a visual glitch. That's
definitely not what the "Translucent" state is supposed to look like. :) The
panel background is supposed to become just translucent, not disappear
completely! Seems like this is working as expected in Plasma 6, and in fact the
bug you were experiencing was in Plasma 5!
