We have been there. We used to have tiling, but removed it again as we couldn't
maintain it and it created problems all over the place. And although we had
support for it, it just couldn't compete with any real tiling window manager.
Trying to emulate tiling in a stacking window manager is bound to fail.
Given that I recommend to use i3 or awesome if one wants to use a tiling window
manager.
