Frustratingly good news
It appears to have fixed itself
Either having to do with latest update, or the other thing that changed was
moving most of my steam games to a new ssd, freeing up a ton of storage on my
boot drive
I already had upwards of 200 gigs free when it started happening, but those are
the only important things that changed.
whatever. we can close this for now it seems
