update: enabling Wayland on SDDM in the alpha version seems to be another valid
fix.

In /etc/sddm.conf.d/kde_settings.conf I set:
[General]
DisplayServer=wayland
GreeterEnvironment=QT_WAYLAND_SHELL_INTEGRATION=layer-shell

[Wayland]
CompositorCommand=kwin_wayland --no-lockscreen --inputmethod qtvirtualkeyboard
