As far as I remember I right clicked the 'start menu' to switch it's style.

Somewhere I found a link to the KDE store to search for start menu
alternatives. I found the alternative start menu, downloaded it and installed
it in the way as it was described. (If I recall correctly it was just to double
click the .plasmoid file. Could also very well be to copy the file to some
subfolder).

When I change the start menu back to the Application Dashboard, the start
button as well as the start menu look similar (but not the same).
While testing I found an interesting bug that is maybe related to this one.
When you open the Application Dashboard with the start menu and then open the
Application Dashboard with the meta key it looks like Z-fighting to me where
one application tries to stay on top of the other one (see video).

When I switch back to the tiled menu again the initial problem as described
does not go away (so it does not seem to be like an overwritten setting that
goes away when you change the used start menu)
