Your preferred scale factor is stored in your home directory.
When you open Dolphin as the root user, it reads settings from the root user's
home directory, not yours.
If you want to be able to manage root-owned files using Dolphin and keep your
user settings in the process, I *strongly* recommend installing kio-admin and
using that instead of launching Dolphin as root.
