An update, this issue seems to have resolved itself. I have no idea why. I ran
an open-source custom Spotify MPRIS daemon, and then discovered that the album
image appears now even though I have removed it and deleted the Spotify app I
created in the developer interface.
I can only assume this was some weird issue with my cache, which despite
reinstalling Spotify from multiple sources, I did not think to wipe. The only
oddity now is that on restarts of the app, the current Spotify track's title is
replaced with its internal ID until another track is loaded, but I have no idea
if this is already a known bug or not.
