Once the notification is closed manually or automatically (by default 5 seconds), media buttons start to work again. I replicated the issue several times using spotify (which by default send a notification every time a song is changed) so, I just change a song and try to use my volume buttons in that exact moment when the notification is launched. In my case, the problem I see is related to the notification widget and the audio widget.
