Bug ID: 463894 Summary: Dell firmware updates cause other updates to not install correctly on Kubuntu 22.04 Classification: Applications Product: Discover Version: 5.24.7 Platform: Kubuntu OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: Updates (offline) Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org Reporter: canaryinades...@gmail.com CC: aleix...@kde.org Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY *** I recently installed Kubuntu 22.04 in a dual-boot system with Windows - my computer did not ship with Linux. I ran an update through the KDE app Discover that updated the Dell BIOS. This update appeared to be successful. I then booted into Kubuntu and saw that Discover was telling me to restart to install other updates I had downloaded. I rebooted, but the message was still there. It appears that the updates are not actually installing when I restart. I am running a Dell XPS 17 9700. I have UEFI Secure Boot disabled. I have shut down the computer and booted into Kubuntu again, but this did not solve the issue. I ran fwupdmgr update and got: Devices with no available firmware updates: • DELL098F:00 04F3:311C • Integrated Webcam HD Devices with the latest available firmware version: • UEFI dbx ...which suggests that a bad EFI binary is not at fault, as a person suggested to me. I'm not sure what package, if any, is the problem here. Thanks for any help in advance. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Install Kubuntu 22.04 alongside Windows in a Dell XPS 9700 2. Go to updates in Discover, update the system and restart 3. BIOS updates and boots into Linux 4. Observe Discover requiring a restart to install other updates 5. Restart 6. Observe Discover notification still there. OBSERVED RESULT EXPECTED RESULT I expected the updates to install normally upon restarting, as they usually do.
