I also notice that: (1) when displaying the grid of desktops, some of the virtual desktops on the laptop have a border that looks like the edge of the image on the external screen; and (2) with an odd number of desktops, we get a black area for the "missing desktop" on the external monitor whereas there's some odd things going on, on the laptop.
