Bug ID: 463007 Summary: Checking backup integrity takes exceptionally long time Classification: Applications Product: kup Version: 0.9.1 Platform: Manjaro OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: simon.pers...@mykolab.com Reporter: pub...@mellomrommet.no Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY I need to backup many 100s of GB of data, and becuase of this I'm using several backup plans to do it in "chunks". I'm doing an rsync "mirror" and a bup backup of the data to an external USB harddisk. The rsync is very fast and done in less than a second unless there are substantial changes to the source data, but the bup backup needs very long time to check data integrity. While I understand that the first time backing up requires quite some time with that much data, and also understand that integrity checking is slower than an rsync process, I don't think integrity checking should need more than a few minutes. Both prosessor and RAM capabilities are good on my hardware, but this process was running for more than 15 minutes on a folder where the source data are about 70 GB. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Set up a backup plan for a folder with about 70 GB of data. Tick checkboxes in settings for "Verify integrity of backups" and "Generate recovery information". 2. Run the backup plan. 3. Wait OBSERVED RESULT Integrity checking is very slow, more than 15 minutes EXPECTED RESULT Integrity checking should be done in a few minutes.
