I've tested in the package gcompris-qt 2.3.1 from the repository of Ubuntu
22.04.1, and it works fine here.
So, as Johnny asked above, we would need you to provide the log to see what is
the problem on your system. To do this open a terminal (in Kubuntu, that would
be the software Konsole), there type gcompris-qt, press enter, and after the
crash copy all the text output from the terminal and paste it here.
About running the latest version (2.4), beside the snap package, you can use
our official standalone installer, see on our download page for all the
details: https://gcompris.net/downloads-en.html#linux
