Well, I am not upgrading from KOrganizer4 to KOrganizer5; I am using version
5.14.2. However, I took steps 2 & 3 of How to Reproduce.

After removing the Akonadi database, I did need to re-open my std.ics calendar
file. It loaded successfully, and, at a cursory glance, all my data appears to
be intact.

I'd say the issue is resolved, but I'll let you change the status if you agree.
