I had a feeling it would work.
Unfortunately mixed-DPI multimonitor setups are not well-supported in the X11
session, and bugs like these are not feasibly fixable. It's one reason why
Wayland exists; it becomes possible to make this sort of thing work properly!
Given your use case and hardware, I would recommend using the Wayland session
if possible.
