Hmmm, after thinking about this more, I think it might be better if masks were
driven by alpha rather than intensity, so that black and white would have the
same effect while transparency (erasing) would have the opposing effect. In the
case of a transparency mask, erasing would hide content while using black or
white would unhide content, therefore simplifying the process. Would this be
possible as optional behavior?
