The issue is caused by the "Media Controls" feature.
Workaround - To disable for Google Meet specifically,
1. visit https://meet.google.com/
2. click on the Plasma Integration icon in the toolbar / extensions menu
3. uncheck the site under Media Controls
4. reload Google Meet
