Imho there is nothing wrong with the term "adaptive" in the English version of
Plasma. But there is something very/completely wrong with your Dutch
translation of the word "adapive". Your translation is "aanpasbaar". 
That would be the (somewhat wooden) translation of "adaptible". 
"Adaptible" is in Dutch "aanpasbaar", "adaptive" could be translated in Dutch
as "zelfaanpassend" but that would be ugly too!
The way out would be to translate "adaptive" in Dutch as "automatisch". Imho
that is close enough and at least no nonsense.

With "adaptive" Plasma wants to make clear that the system itself adapts the
theme when there is a need to do so. You couldn't be more wrong then to
translate that with "aanpasbaar" (adaptible).
There is absolutely nothing wrong with using the term "adaptive" in that place
in Plasma.
