Plasma doesn't have the power to directly generate these kinds of symptoms; the
only way I could think of is if it's rapidly consuming all system memory, which
would make everytihng hang and eventually things would start to crash. Can you
see if that's what's happening?
If it's not, then the only remaining culprits would be KWin, your graphics
drivers, or the X server. What graphics hardware do you have?
