Bug ID: 456894 Summary: kwin_kwayland crashes and potential lockups Product: kwin Version: 5.25.3 Platform: Slackware Packages OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: major Priority: NOR Component: wayland-generic Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: sombrag...@sombragris.org Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY I'm having two problems which might be similar. Sometimes the wayland desktop crashes. Those times all I get is these log entry in /var/log/messages: kwin_wayland[1494]: segfault at 1c1000000 ip 00000001c1000000 sp 00007ffe36539b08 error 14 in anon_inode:i915.gem[7fe062cff000+800000] I can recover by terminating the graphical session and starting a new one. Sometimes I also get a hard lockup. The system quickly stops responding; first some pieces of software, then the keyboard, and finally even the mouse. In that case, the only piece of the computer which is responding is the power button, which initiates an ordered shutdown; but the desktop does not close cleanly. Both crashes can lead to data loss, as one might think, so the severity of the bug should be at least "grave". I cannot yet find a way to reliably reproduce any of these behaviors, and they appear occassionally but frequently. Thanks for seeking a solution to this.
